Management of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has interdicted two doctors and two nurses in connection with the alleged refusal to provide emergency treatment to a road accident victim who later died of his injuries after being turned away from three hospitals while on an ambulance.
The decision was contained in a statement issued by the hospital on Monday, February 23, 2026, after public outrage over reports that the victim was turned away despite being in critical condition.
The hospital indicated that the staff members have been temporarily relieved of their duties pending investigations.

According to management, a committee has been set up to conduct a full inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine whether established emergency care protocols were breached.
All personnel linked to the case have been directed to cooperate with the investigative process to ensure transparency and fairness.
The deceased, 29-year-old Charles Amissah, an engineer with Promasidor Ghana Limited, sustained severe shoulder injuries in a hit-and-run accident at the Circle Overpass in Accra on February 6, 2026.
He was stabilised by emergency medical services (EMS) personnel and prepared for transfer to a hospital for further treatment.
Reports indicate that Amissah was unable to secure admission at the Police Hospital, Ridge Hospital, and Korle Bu due to a lack of available beds. While at Korle Bu, he reportedly went into cardiac arrest.
Although cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) was administered, efforts to revive him were unsuccessful, and he was later pronounced dead.
The hospital has reaffirmed its commitment to accountability and pledged to update the public once investigations are concluded.
