Two robbery suspects, who attempted to rob the residence of an Appeals Court judge in Kumasi, have been arrested by the Ashanti Regional Police Command.

The suspects identified as Patrick Alor, 23, and Akwasi Gyamfi, 21, who sustained gunshot wounds during the operation, are currently on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, under police guard.

A statement signed by DSP Godwin Ahianyo, the Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, and issued in Kumasi, said the attempted act was halted by the alertness and bravery of a police bodyguard on duty at the residence.

The statement said preliminary investigations indicated that, on March 03, 2026, at about 11:30 p.m., the suspects scaled the fence of the Judge’s residence, wielding cutlasses and a pair of scissors and attempted to forcibly open the judge’s private vehicle.

The duo was spotted by the bodyguard on duty, and in the process of effecting their arrest, the suspects attempted to disarm the officer.

Acting in self-defence and in accordance with Police operational procedures, the bodyguard discharged his firearm, resulting in gunshot wounds to the left and right legs of the suspects, respectively.

The injured suspects were immediately conveyed to KATH, where they are currently on admission and responding to treatment under police guard.

The Regional Command commended the bodyguard for their vigilance, professionalism, and bravery, whose swift action prevented a potentially serious incident.

The Police assured the public of its continued commitment to protecting members of the judiciary and all citizens and urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
