President John Dramani Mahama has officially opened the 2026 Ghana–European Union (EU) Partnership Dialogue, where Ghana and the European Union reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation in trade, investment and other strategic sectors aligned with Ghana's national development priorities.
The dialogue brought together government officials and representatives of the European Union to review bilateral relations and explore opportunities to expand collaboration.
During the dialogue, Ghana highlighted its position as the first African country to conclude several strategic partnership agreements with the European Union in a number of priority sectors. The agreements are expected to enhance cooperation in areas of shared interest and support the country's development agenda.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also presented progress on its comprehensive project database and coordination framework, which is intended to improve the planning, monitoring and coordination of development projects across all 16 regions of Ghana. According to the Ministry, the system has improved efficiency and strengthened oversight of projects.

The government reiterated its policy focus on promoting trade over aid, increasing value addition to locally produced goods instead of exporting raw materials, and strengthening health sovereignty through the Accra Reset Agenda. It also emphasised the importance of pursuing partnerships that deliver mutual benefits for Ghana and its international partners.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, President Mahama is the first Ghanaian President to officially open the annual Ghana–EU Partnership Dialogue on two occasions, having done so again during his second term in office.
