A gruesome incident has rocked Barekese-Achiase, a farming community in Atwima Nwabiagya North District in the Ashanti Region, leaving three family members dead.
A family dispute turned violent on Monday afternoon, resulting in the tragic loss of lives.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with residents calling for increased security measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
The Assembly Member for Abira-Ataase, Ibrahim Somala, confirmed the incident.
According to him, a 21-year-old man known as "Baybay" lived with his mother, father, and elder brother, Cofi, the Achiase. However, due to a misunderstanding between Baybay and the family, his parents left the village to stay in a nearby Abira community.
On Monday, February 16, the 70-year-old mother, Maa Ataa, was allegedly attacked and stabbed to death by his son Baybay, while she was tending to her farm in the community.
The act sparked outrage in his brother Cofi, who confronted Bayba. The confrontation turned deadly, with both brothers stabbing each other to death.
"As far as we're concerned, Baybay isn't mentally unstable, but he's had issues with his mother for a while, and that's why his parents left the village to come here," narrated the Assemblyman.
He stated that the Barekese Police command was informed about the incident. They visited the scene to begin investigations into the matter.
The bodies of the victims have been taken to the mortuary at Offinso St Patrick's Hospital, pending further action.
