The CEO of Black Avenue, D-Black, has revealed that the idea to venture into the entertainment business was gotten during the time he was working at a nightclub.
According to him, he was 21 years old and was working as a procurement officer at the defunct Aphrodisiac Nightclub owned by Confidence Haugen when the inspiration to start his own business was birthed.
The businessman said he was also working for Confidence’s advertisement firm when she decided to hand it over to him to run.
D-Black was speaking on a yet-to-be-aired episode of Celeb Biz hosted by Amelley Djosu on Joy Prime.
“Before I started making music, I was working at nightclubs, so that’s where the aspiration for the entertainment business came from. I was working at Aphrodisiac Nightclub. It was owned by Confidence. It’s like a three-minute walk away from here. So I was one of the procurement guys they sent on errands.”
“I was about 21 years old. She started an advertising company, and then along the line, she let it go to focus on the club.
"She said, Listen, if you’re interested, you can continue it. Register your own company and do the job that we did. So I did that; I registered as Black Avenue, and I started working for myself,” he explained.

D-Black, known in private life as Desmond Kwesi Blackmore, said his breakthrough came soon after he had registered the Black Avenue Company.
He told Amelley Djosu that Coco-Cola gave him his first deal, the profit he diversified and invested in other businesses.
“That’s where I got a gig with Coca-Cola. When they introduced a new energy drink, in six months, I was making money I'd never seen before. So I took the money from Black Avenue, put it in music, and music made money.
"I put it in something else, and I decided to continue, so it’s been 14 years and 11 investments. Music financed maybe 5 or 4 of the 11,” the musician added.
