President Akufo-Addo on Thursday, visited the Oti Region for a day’s tour. The visit to the region is the first after the 2020 General Elections that saw his re-election as the President for a second term.
The tour took him to Ado-Kwanta in the Krachi East municipality where he inaugurated a cassava and yam processing factory under the one district, one factory initiative by the government.
The factory is under the management of CH Global Ltd.
They are expected to process yam and cassava into other products for local and international consumption.
Farmers in the region are expected to take advantage of the situation and expand cultivation of yam and cassava.
Currently, over two hundred farmers are directly engaged by the company to supply yams for processing while indirectly about ten thousand farmers from various cooperatives and farmer associations have been engaged in the region.
The President also visited Dambai where he interacted with the chiefs from Krachi East, Krachi West and Karchi Nchumuru area. The President at Dambai called on the people to unite and support government for development.
He thanked the people of the Oti Region for their votes despite his party not securing a single parliamentary seat in the region.
According to the President, a representation from the region would have been an added advantage in lobbying for development for the various areas in the region but that has all been pushed to the opposition.
He also reiterated his commitment to construct a bridge over the Oti River as his legacy to the region by the end of his second term as the President of Ghana.
While in Dambai, the President also visited the construction site of a waste treatment plant at Yariga. The plant which machinery is expected to be installed in the coming days would recycle waste from Kadjebi, Biakoye, Jasikan districts and Krachi East municipality.
The President also visited Nkwanta South where he met and interacted briefly with the chiefs from Nkwanta North and South.
He proceeded to Kadjebi where he was briefed on the progress of work on the 56.4KM Jasikan-Dodo Pepesu stretch of the Eastern Corridor road.
