Former Eastern Regional Minister, Antwi Boasiako has pointed out that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) was formed to represent the grassroots and to give voice to the voiceless.
According to Mr. Boasiako, the formation of the NDC party was centred on giving hope to workers such as farmers, fishermen, ordinary people, and disadvantaged in society.
“We think that we need to have a dialogue …our ideas and strategies to enable us to find why some of those people are deserting us and bring them on board, it is not about who will be a leader or who will be a follower that is not the case and I think that is why people are trying to characterise,” he stated.
“Honestly, if we don’t have a formidable strong and dynamic party what would be the use of the leader? We need to be strong on the ground and not in the air and strong on the ground we need to ensure that our structures are functioning on the ground,“ he added.
His comment comes at the back of a forum held by some leading members of the party in Tema on Saturday on the theme ‘Securing NDC’s Future’ .
The leadership of the party was also holding a three-day retreat in Ho, attended by its 2020 flagbearer, John Mahama, and running mate, Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman.
The programme among other things was to assess the party’s performance in the 2020 general elections, strengthen its structures and strategise on the reorganisation for victory in the next presidential and parliamentary polls.
Speaking to Evans Mensah on Top Story, Monday, Mr Antwi Boasiako said after the outcome of the election, it is appropriate that a forum would be held to discuss and engage and probe into what ensued and the outcome as a collective party so as to “strategize and see what the outcome was and know what the way forward is.” but not to sideline a section of the party.
“A section of the party cannot be sidelined or ignored, we all have to sit so that we have a consensus of what must be done and how it should be done,” he said.
