The National Identification Authority (NIA) has rescheduled its nationwide distribution of more than three million Ghana Cards from today to Wednesday, June 10, 2020.
This is to enable the NIA to distribute Personal Protective Equipment to 5,635 registration centres in all the 16 regions.
A statement signed by Mr Francis Palmdeti, Head of Corporate Affairs of the NIA, and copied to the Ghana News Agency, on Monday, expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to the public.
The NIA, on Friday, June 5, announced plans to commence the distribution of 3,875,441 printed Ghana Cards to applicants in 5,635 registration centres concurrently from Monday, June 8, to Tuesday, June 16.
The exercise, it said, would enable 11,062,850 Ghanaians to use their cards to vouch for their relatives or other Ghanaians who wished to register during the nationwide mop-up registration exercise, beginning from June 18 to mid-September.
Also, it would enable them to use the cards for other mandatory purposes stated in the National Identity Register Regulation, 2012 (LI 2111), including registering as a voter and vouching for others as Ghanaians.
It said all registration centres would be equipped with the requisite resources to ensure effective observance of all prescribed health and safety protocols.
Additionally, security personnel would be deployed at each registration centre to ensure compliance to crowd control measures, such as physical distancing and appointment system strictly observed.
It said all applicants attending the collection centres must wear a face mask and wash their hands before beginning the Card collection process.
