The Ministry of Interior, on the advice of the Oti Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument, has announced a revision of the curfew hours imposed on Nkwanta Township.
The curfew has been adjusted from 8: pm to 6: am.
This decision responds to improved security in the area.
In a statement signed by the Minister of Interior, Henry Quartey, residents were urged to exercise restraint and use established mechanisms to resolve conflicts and disputes.
The government maintained that, there is a ban on all persons in Nkwanta township and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition, or any offensive weapons.
Any person found with arms or ammunition will be arrested and prosecuted.
Adom News’ Obrempongba reported that residents welcomed the change and expressed optimism that the extended hours will foster a sense of normalcy and vibrancy in Nkwanta township.
Many noted that, the earlier curfew restricted their evening activities and affected businesses, particularly those that thrive in the night.
The extension to 8:pm aims to strike a balance between ensuring public safety and allowing residents to engage in social and economic activities after sunset.
The MCE for the area, Felix Owusu-Gyimah, has urged residents and leaders to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
He emphasized that as the new curfew takes effect, it will be crucial for both residents and law enforcement to work together to ensure that Nkwanta remains a safe and thriving community.
