The North Dayi District Chief Executive has called on the citizenry to support the government’s vision of building a resilient, vibrant, and prosperous Ghana.
Edmund Kudjoh Attah asserted that the vision cannot be achieved without citizens exhibiting patriotism by buying into it and committing to make it a reality.
Mr Attah made the call while addressing the North Dayi District parade during the 67th Independence Day Celebration at Aveme in the Volta Region.
“It is imperative, therefore, to put in place workable strategies, regulations, relevant enactments, and strong institutions to protect and secure the unprecedented gains achieved so far and also endeavour to build on them for a brighter future for all, especially the future generation”, he added.
He identified the Free Senior High School as a catalyst for producing the right human resources to man the country’s economy, to reduce the rate of poverty in the country.
“By Free Senior High School, the government is also committed to creating a favourable condition that will not allow anyone to use poverty as an excuse not to go to school”, he added.
He, however, lamented the upsurge of youth engaging in vices such as armed robbery, internet fraud, drug abuse, and promiscuity which are detrimental to the progress of their lives.
“I make a plea to the youth of North Dayi District and Ghana as a whole to be disciplined and pursue genuine wealth. Your district and country need your energy, your dynamism, your creativity, and above all your visions for development.
I therefore urge you, our young people to resolve to be serious with your education, stay at home, use your energies and enthusiasm to serve your district and Ghana at large”, he added.
Mr Attah disclosed that the District Assembly has rolled out an intervention programme under the Ghana Productive Safety Net Project (GPSNP) aimed at mitigating the impacts of climate change.
He said the programme encompasses the rehabilitation of degraded lands at Awate, Wusuta, Tsoxor, Vakpo Konda, and Vakpo New Adomi with the cultivation of cashew and coconut.
“The project aims at bridging the unemployment gap by offering an opportunity to interested persons to earn daily income, thereby improving upon the standard of living of our people. I, therefore, urge you Togbewo, Mamawo to engage the youth in your traditional areas to actively participate in this programme in order to make it successful”, he said.
Mr Attah further indicated that basic and second-cycle schools were supplied with seedlings under the Green Ghana Programme and implored teachers to focus on teaching sustainable environment practices.
