NDC Eastern Regional Deputy Youth Organiser Nat Tetteh has taken a swipe at the New Patriotic Party and their Candidate in the upcoming Akwatia by-election.
He made the remarks in an interview with Pan African Television at the NDC Parliamentary primaries being held in Akwatia today, to elect a parliamentary candidate for the by-election.
"The NPP and their candidate are fighting a lost battle. The people of Akwatia have tasted leadership under both NPP and NDC, and are certain in their minds that the NDC is the only party that cares about the development and progress of Akwatia", he stated.
Quizzed on why the NDC decided to comduct fresh parliamentary primaries rather than go by a consensus candidate, Mr Tetteh noted that the NDC had chosen to open up the primaries for all, in their character as a party that upholds the tenets of democracy and inclusivity. He noted that as a Congress, the NDC is a party that considered the opinion of its rank and file, hence the need for open primaries.
The Akwatia by-election scheduled for September 2, was necessitated by the passing of the former MP of Akwatia, Hon Ernest Yaw Kumi who went to parliament on the ticket of the NPP.
