Incumbent Parliamentarian for Oda constituency, William Akwasi Agyapong Quaittoo, is seeking to be re-elected for another term.
The Chairman of Parliamentary select committee on Education who is serving a second straight term, has initiated moves to contest the seat for the third time.
This was after a group of party faithful led by Alpha Kwame Kissi, said to be son of the Eastern Regional Chair of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), picked the nomination forms at the party's office in Akyem Oda on the MP's behalf on January 31, 2020.
Mr. Agyapong Quaittoo, who is also a member of the Emoluments Committee of Parliament, was not showing much interest in picking forms to contest but was convinced by some party gurus and supporters in the constituency who have pledged their support for him in the April 25 primaries.
Considered a political heavyweight in the Oda area, the former Deputy Food and Agriculture Minister will face-off with the formidable businessman, Alexander Akwasi Acquah, who had picked his nomination forms two days earlier, to contest the sitting MP for the position ahead of the December 7 general elections.
Alexander Akwasi Acquah
Mr. Acquah, who is the CEO of The Community Hospitals Group, has over the years implemented a number of development projects in the Akyem Oda Township key among them being the Kotokuman Education Trust Fund, an initiative of Alexander Akwasi Acquah Foundation (AAAF).
In 2019, the former Broadcast Journalist at Peace FM also donated a 4x4 pick-up vehicle to aid the party's day to day running in the constituency. He also helped in guaranteeing an interest-free loan scheme to polling station officers to the tune of GH¢300,000.
This enabled many of them to invest the funds into income-generating ventures that saw them become financially independent rather than relying on handouts from politicians.
Both aspirants have pledged to conduct clean campaigns devoid of personality attacks.
