Defence Minister and outgoing Director of Elections and IT for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for what he describes as a lack of concern for the welfare of Ghanaians.
According to him, the NPP is solely focused on retaining political power rather than addressing the pressing needs of the citizenry.
Dr Boamah made the comments in a Facebook post on Wednesday, 18th June 2025, shortly after the NPP announced that it would hold its presidential primaries on 31st January 2026 to elect a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
The announcement was made following a National Executive Committee meeting held in Accra on Tuesday.
In his strongly-worded post, the Defence Minister accused the ruling party of showing no remorse for the hardships caused under its watch.
“The Competent Economic Management Team did enough damage to pensioners, people with disabilities, women, the youth and Ghanaians in general,” he wrote. “In six short months, instead of apologising sincerely for their misdeeds, they're focusing on the next elections.”
Dr Boamah further asserted that the NPP’s posture reflects a broader pattern of neglect and self-interest.
“NPP thinks only about themselves and the next elections,” he said, suggesting that the party’s priority has always been political survival over national progress.
He concluded his remarks by referencing the NDC’s long-standing slogan, stating simply: “The Alternative Is...” — a phrase meant to reinforce the opposition’s call for change and position the NDC as a more compassionate and responsible governing option.
