The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has announced that it will stage a demonstration on Tuesday, 23rd September 2025, to protest what it calls state-sponsored harassment by the Ghana Police Service against its members.
The party’s National Youth Organiser, Salam Mustapha, disclosed this in a Facebook post on Friday, September 12.
The move follows the remand of Bono Regional Chairman of the NPP, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, who was ordered by an Accra Circuit Court to remain in custody for one week while investigations continue.
He has been charged with offensive conduct conducive to the breach of public peace and publication of false news. He's now to reappear in Court on September 19 despite being arrested on 8th September.
He has since remained in police custody.
Reacting to the situation, Salam Mustapha wrote: “Tuesday, 23rd September, the National Youth Wing will organise a demo against the state-sponsored police harassment. From Obra Spot to police headquarters. 6 a.m. sharp!”
Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi, is also under investigation for alleged fraud, causing financial loss to the state, and money laundering.
Several other party affiliates have reportedly been arrested in separate cases.
The NPP youth wing leadership insists the demonstration will draw strong support from party members nationwide, vowing to resist what it sees as politically motivated actions by state authorities.
