The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Professor Peter Twumasi has disclosed that the Authority is yet to receive an investigation report from the Police on four of its interdicted staff.
The former Director General, Robert Sarfo Mensah, Ashanti Regional Director, Joshua Mensah, the public relations officer, Frederica Davis, and the protocol officer were interdicted for allegedly accepting bribes after the 2018 ‘Number 12’ exposé by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
In the ‘Number 12’ exposé, these individuals were fingered for bribery allegations and subsequently interdicted by the Authority.
“Subsequently, these implicated persons, including the Director-General, have been interdicted in line with our laid down administrative procedure and are not at post,” a statement from the NSA said.
Professor Peter Twumasi while appearing before the Public Accounts Committee on Wednesday, January 18, said despite several letters written to the police CID his outfit has not been furnished with any report on the progress of the investigation of the interdicted staff.
He admitted that this has been a challenge for the Authority because the Authority is yet to ascertain whether they are guilty or not.
“They were investigated, some of them were exonerated, others were found culpable. This particular individual was part of those to be investigated and to date, we have not received a report on him from the investigation.
“We have done a number of follow-ups at the police service who also confirm to us that indeed they are investigating the officer but then the investigation was commissioned by the Presidency so they will submit their report there.
“We did a number of writings through our sector ministry to the Presidency for the report to be issued so that we will know whether the person is found guilty for us to act on it or to be reinstated, till date we have not received such a finality and it has been a challenge for us for this officer,” he told the Committee.
When he was questioned by the Committee to provide a copy of a recent letter to the police, he said “Chairman we will furnish you with some of this correspondent and the petitions that we gathered over this period.”
Meanwhile, the interdicted staff have been living without salary for four years after being forced to stay away.
Chairman of the Committee, James Klutse Avedzi was outraged by the Director General’s response and the manner in which the situation has been handled.
According to the Committee, Prof. Twumasi is shirking his responsibilities.
JoyNews sources say three of the interdicted staff referred the matter to the National Labour Commission and the National Sports Council was directed to pay half of their salary which started just six months ago.
