A founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, has strongly criticised the party’s decision to elect a presidential candidate before the reorganisation of its internal structures, describing the move as unconstitutional and strategically flawed.
According to Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe, the decision to proceed with the selection of a flagbearer ahead of electing new national, regional, constituency, and polling station executives contradicts the laid-down processes outlined in the NPP’s constitution. He warned that the party's failure to respect its own rules is a dangerous signal of weak leadership and internal dysfunction.
“In a party that has just lost a major election, it is critical to conduct a thorough analysis of what went wrong. Rushing to elect a presidential candidate without honest reflection is a mistake,” he said. “This process appears to be skewed in favour of a particular individual, ignoring genuine concerns raised by notable party figures.”
Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe further questioned the credibility of the current party leadership, whom he holds responsible for the NPP’s devastating electoral defeat in the 2024 general elections. He argued that the current executives lack the moral authority and legitimacy to lead the party through such an important reorganisation process.
“The leadership that led the party into defeat cannot be trusted to conduct a credible process that aims at returning the party to power in 2028,” he stated. “We need a transparent, inclusive approach that strictly adheres to the party’s constitution if we are serious about rebuilding the NPP.”
