Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has urged party members to refrain from pressuring Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on his choice of a running mate.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, he said all discussions aimed at influencing the presidential candidate should be discouraged to allow him sufficient time to engage with party members and focus on strategies for rebuilding the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
"All sorts of conversations that seek to pressure the candidate or the party into making any decision should be discouraged," he said when asked whether the 2024 running mate, Mathew Opoku Prempeh, would be given the nod again.
"We are now starting the process of internal conversations. We are now going to go through the process of thanking our delegates. We are now coming to rebuild our policy platform, rebuild our communication architecture," he added.
Mr Oppong Nkrumah emphasised that patience is key as Dr Bawumia prepares to consolidate support and strengthen the party ahead of the 2028 elections.
Meanwhile, the MP assured party members that no one would be sidelined following the party’s flagbearer election.
According to him, party members will be given the opportunity to serve in various capacities, regardless of the camp they belonged to during the flagbearer race.
He stressed that affiliation to a particular candidate would not be a basis for exclusion.
"I can assure you that the party will afford all of us the opportunity and the motivation to participate fully, and I know all our other colleagues who are on different teams have the abilities. We all have the abilities, we will all be given the opportunity and motivation, and I have no doubt that we can all hold hands and walk together to give Red, White and Blue its best opportunity in 2028," he added.
