Apostle General of the Royalhouse Chapel International has highlighted what he believes are advantages of being in opposition as a political party.

Rev Sam Korankye Ankrah said a stint outside the reigns of political leadership affords the members the opportunity to effectively assess the plight of the citizenry.

Delivering a sermon in church Sunday, he explained that it is difficult for incumbent administrations to relate with the plight of the grassroots from the 'palace' when they find themselves in power.

"As for those who win elections, I know them very well. As soon as they get to the palace and they tale their position as chief butler and they start servicing the wine, they forget the people in the prison.

"They change their telephone numbers. When you call them they don't respond again. They only start coming to us again when the elections is close," he said.

He encouraged politicians not to see election losses as the end but rather take advantage of these situations in assessing the key areas that are of interest to the electorate and devise means of ameliorating their conditions when they get the chance to do so.

"If you lose [an election] you haven't lost. Because the palace is good but the prison [opposition] is also good.

"When you are in prison [opposition], that's where you learn humility. That's where you learn empathy. That is where you get in touch with the people on the ground," he said.

He also urged opposition political parties not to resort to inciting violence over their losses but rather capitalise on the status to canvas resources when they eventual come back to power.

“Politics is not about fighting, it is an opportunity to serve,” he added.
