Chief Executive Officer of the Kufour Foundation, Prof. Baffour Agyemang-Duah, has asserted that churches in the country have failed in their role as custodians of morality.
He said, rather than being institutions for strengthening morality, some churches are engaging in practices that are alien to Christian doctrine.
Speaking on the Super Morning Show, Tuesday, he contended that, "churches have been the worst failure in our society, especially the so-called, I don’t want to mention their names, have added to the complexity of the challenges that we have in this country. But nobody talks about that because our prominent political leaders go and bow before people who claim to be evangelists or pastors.
So, if the sovereign leader of the nation goes to prostrate before somebody who doesn't deserve it, then we have a problem."
Prof. Agyemang-Duah was contributing to discussions that centered on patriotism. He argued that Ghanaians are no longer patriotic because of the financial challenges they face. As a result, the focus is on money rather than morals or patriotism.
He further attributed this development to the failure of our schools to play their roles in society, properly.
“One of the serious gaps in preparing our young people to be responsible citizens, is the school. Subjects that previously instilled morality in students have been scrapped from the curriculum,: he bemoaned.
Prof. Agyemang-Duah added that “our leaders have failed us and the clergy have failed us.”
