The spokesperson of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi, has called on the Police to pardon the party's Suame Youth Organiser for allegedly inciting violence.

The NDC Youth Organiser in Suame is reported to have made statements that border on possible reprisals to state-sponsored violence during elections.

According to Mr. Gyamfi, the 'young man misspoke and must be pardoned'.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Sammy Gyamfi explained that, the comments by the NDC activist were borne out of the "pain he and other NDC supporters have suffered in the hands of NPP thugs in the Ashanti Region over the years".

While calling on the Police to pardon the utterances of the accused, he also implored the police to "focus on arresting NPP bandits and terrorists who have attacked a Court of competent jurisdiction in Kumasi and have actually maimed and killed several innocent Ghanaians".

He also advised the party's supporters "to continue to exercise restraint and not allow the fact that President Akufo Addo rode to power on the back of so much bloodshed and barbarity to make them want to mimic Nana Akufo Addo and his very violent political party".

Despite his caution, he however took a swipe at the Police and members of the New Patriotic Party who have criticised the Suame Youth Organiser.

Expressing his sentiments, he also queried the 'hypocrisy' of the Police for selectively dealing with matters involving unsavoury public commentary.

"It is hypocritical that the Ghana Police Service which failed to even comment on or take action against the NPP bandits who perpetuated these heinous crimes against innocent Ghanaians, most of whom are NDC members, will turn around to swiftly call for the arrest of a young man for misspeaking", he noted.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service says it has taken steps to arrest the NDC activist and bring him to justice.

In a statement last night, the Police said it has taken note of the calls by the Suame Youth Organiser "to attack persons of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the run-up to the 2024 General Elections".

Condmening the incident, the Police urged political actors to be circumspect in their language and utterances "to safeguard the peace and security" of the country.
