Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has announced that the House will from next week hold virtual sitting as part of measures to curtail the spread and threats of Covid-19.
According to the Speaker, only one-third (91) out of the 275 MPs will be required to be present in the chamber while others transact business from their offices.
He added that Members will be allowed into the chamber as and when the need arises to contribute to debates on the floor.
"Because of the Covid-19, we are going to take some measures. We will be needing about one-third of members on the floor, the rest will have to join virtually.
"You have to be in your offices, observe proceedings, and as and when necessary, appear to contribute. We are not going to allow this kind of sitting again," he told the Parliamentarians on Friday.
To ensure that the environment is free from the virus, Mr. Bagbin informed members that there will be a fumigation exercise in the Chamber and all offices of MPs during the weekend.
He also hinted that the House may consider holding sittings from the tent that has been erected at the forecourt of Parliament.
