The Central Region branch of the National Peace Council is demanding a report on the shooting incident of Awutu Senya East Constituency MP Mavis Hawa Koomson.
The Central Regional Chairman of the National Peace Council, Matthew Eghan, explained that the police has been silent on the matter since the case was transferred to the headquarters of the CID in Accra.
“If we want peace in Ghana, and in the Central Region, we appeal to government and the police to investigate what happened at Kasoa and also the Ajumako-Besease, where a minister of state fired a gun,” he said.
Mr Eghan was speaking at a workshop in Assin Fosu where he noted that peace goes hand-in-hand with justice, therefore, if the country wants peace to prevail in the upcoming elections, issues of this kind must not be treated lightly.
Mavis Hawa Koomson in July this year admitted to firing shots at a registration center in the Awutu Senya East Constituency during the voters' registration exercise.
This, she said was done in self-defense.
Despite efforts to justify the move, the act was largely condemned by the public, with many calling for her arrest.
She was picked up by the police for investigations, but was later released.
The Central Region branch of the Peace Council is asking the authorities concerned to produce a report on the outcome of the incident.
