Construction firm, Progressive Modern Construction (PMC) Africa Limited has presented playground equipment to some schools in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region.
The playground equipment which included a see-saw, merry go round, and push and pull were donated to Wenchi SDA “A” and “B” cluster of schools as well as Western Link MTS school.
Presenting the items on behalf of PMC Africa Limited, Presiding Member of the Wenchi Municipal Assembly, Samuel Mensah said the donation was aimed at whipping up the interest of pre-school children in attending school.

“School playground equipment plays a vital role in the development of children because it helps pupils to release energy and take a mental break during the day,” Mr Mensah said.
He stated that research shows that students who engage in physical play each day have fewer behavioural problems in class, perform better, and have better academic records.

Studies, he says also indicated that students perform better in class when they utilize school playground equipment to stay active during school.
He disclosed that PMC Africa Limited has awarded full scholarships to about 500 students at all levels of education within the Wenchi Municipality and further gave out books to school children in order to enhance the standard of education in the area.
The proprietor of Western Link MTS School, Nana Edward Adu-Sei commended PMC Africa Limited for the gesture, saying “these playground equipment play a critical role in training school children and the ones presented now will significantly aim the training process here”.
Nana Adu-Sei also used the platform and appealed to other benevolent individuals and organisations to get roads liking Wenchi-Techiman highway to the school constructed.

At the Wenchi SDA school, the Headmaster of SDA “B” basic school, Daniel Kwao received the items and commended PMC Africa Limited for the gesture and promised to make good use of it.
He called on government and well-meaning Ghanaians to aid the school to build a fence wall in order to protect their lives and school properties.
This, according to Mr Kwaw, will further ward off cattle herdsmen who normally invade the school compound with their livestock.
