Former Member of Parliament for Kumbungu Constituency, Ras Mubarak has described as flawed, an assertion by the NDC leadership in the House that Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta was approved because he has 'messed up the economy'.
This according to him is because it is unwise for a person who is alleged to have displayed incompetence to be kept in a position that allows him to repeat same.
This comment follows a revelation by Deputy Minority Whip, Ahmed Ibrahim that it would be easier for a new minister to make excuses when questioned about projects that were not managed under their tenure.
Speaking on Top Story, Mr Ibrahim had explained that, in view of this, Ken Ofori-Atta needs to stay in position and answer to some of the decisions he made in his first term as Minister.
He said before NPP took over in 2017, economic indicators were in the positive but “four years down the line the Minister for Finance, himself, all his economic indicators are in the negative. The economy has also grown about 0.9%.”
“If you change him and bring a new person, the kind of excuses he will be giving will be you know I was not responsible for that. So if he says that he is the best man for the economy, then let Ken Ofori-Atta be the Minister and we will see the kind of growth figures that he will churn out.”
But rubbishing the reasons given in a Facebook post, Ras Mubarak asked if the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu will hand over his car to a driver who out of sheer incompetence or negligence crashed it once.
"Secondly, if the economy is messed up further by the one who crashed it initially as we are made to believe, it is the fed-up man or woman in the streets who suffers and not the politician who gets some things tax-free," he added.
The argument that the Finance Minister messed the economy so should be approved to face it is so flawed. Question -...

On Monday, March 30, Mr. Ofori-Atta was approved by consensus following recommendations from the Appointments Committee.
The Finance Minister, who is the last substantive minister of President Akufo-Addo to be approved was vetted by the Appointments Committee last Thursday and Friday.
His vetting was postponed several times after he developed some post-Covid-19 health complications and had to be taken to the US to seek medical treatment.
He however returned to Ghana on Monday, March 22, 2021.
After, his vetting, several Minority MPs raised reservations over the responses given with the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu describing his answers to questions as unsatisfactory.
He insisted that Ofori-Atta must furnish the committee with details of the procuring of McKinsey global management consultancy McKinsey & Company to improve revenue collection mechanisms at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
But in an interesting twist, Parliament, as a whole approved the nomination of the Minister via voice vote.
