“If you come out with good lyrics, good music, evergreen music, that is when we call you a talented musician”, says highlife legend, Abrantie Amakye Dede.
Amakye Dede was the toast of many complimentary calls when he hanged out with Lexis Bill on Drive Time on Joy, on Thursday evening, on the occasion of Amakye’s 65th birthday anniversary.
Rewind the conversation between Amakye Dede and Lexis Bill
Asked what was it about his generation that blessed their lyrics with so much refinement and beauty that sets their music apart from the present generation, Amakye Dede told his host, Lexis Bill, that it is the character of music, that each generation projects particular attributes of music.
He thus would not fault any generation, because in all instances, good music stands out.

Asked what names come to mind, Amakye Dede responded that “Somebody like Sarkodie, he is good,” somebody like Samuel Owusu, I like Samuel Owusu’s songs, I like Daddy Lumba, Nana Acheampong, I like their music.”
But the names you’ve mentioned are not among the current generation, or? Lexis interjected, to which Amakye Dede reminded him of his mention of Sarkodie, before adding Stonebwoy for his danceable songs, as well as Okomfo Kwaadee, whose songs Amakye Dede says he can play repeatedly all the way from Accra to his hometown, Agogo in Ashanti.
And there is also the sensational and “one of the best, Kofi Kinaata”, whose songs he likes very much. Kinaata, veteran Lee Duodoo and Amakye Dede are on the same bill come Saturday, January 7, at the Bayview Village, Atomic Junction in Accra.
