The Ghana Police Service has retrieved the iPhone 12 belonging to 33-year-old Nana Yaw Kyere, a phone dealer at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, who was reported missing on September 22. His alleged kidnapping and murder have led to the arrest of three suspects.

Police say suspect Philip Dzifa Kofi Tefe allegedly sold the deceased’s phone for GH¢100, with the buyer, identified as Sunday Omeje, subsequently cautioned and detained for allegedly dishonestly receiving the device.

The three suspects arrested in connection with the case are Philip Dzifa Kofi Tefe, Sarah Osei Adams and Josiah Obodai. Their arrests followed investigations by the Ghana Police Service’s Missing Persons Unit.

According to the police, Kyere left his residence at Kokomlemle in Accra on September 19, in his Honda Civic vehicle, but did not return home.

Investigators say preliminary inquiries established that he was allegedly lured to Tefe’s residence at Teshie Agyebla by Adams.

Police said Tefe and Adams later confessed to their involvement and told investigators that Tefe attacked Kyere during a confrontation, allegedly striking him with a metallic object and causing injuries.

Kyere was subsequently moved to another room, where he was left unattended and later died, according to the police account.

Investigators further established that the victim’s body was allegedly transported in a Kia Morning vehicle to a location near the motorway on September 20. Police said the body was dumped in a bush and set ablaze.

The partially burnt remains were discovered at Community 18 on September 21.

Kyere’s biological mother and an uncle later identified the body at the Police Hospital morgue on September 24, according to the police.

Omeje, who allegedly purchased the phone, has been cautioned and detained while police investigate the circumstances surrounding his possession of the device.

Further investigations also resulted in the arrest of Josiah Obodai, who is being investigated over the alleged disposal of Kyere’s body.

Police have impounded Obodai’s father’s Kia Morning, which investigators believe may have been used to transport the body.

The three suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be brought before the court as investigations continue.

The Ghana Police Service said inquiries are also ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding Kyere’s death and to identify and arrest any other persons who may have been involved.
