The Deputy Director of Elections and IT of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Rashid Tanko-Computer, has raised concerns about the Electoral Commission's IT system.
According to him, the party was skeptical about the EC system since, in the previous district assembly elections, it had even failed to deliver on its mandate.
“We have seen that consistently there is a serious problem with the IT department of the Electoral Commission. Look at the 2023 registration exercise and the district assembly election. People went to vote, they didn’t see their names in the register.
"You are holding ID card, you voted in 2020, now you come to vote in 2023, the same ID card, they say your name is not in the register. Who did it? It is the IT department,” he said.
He explained that this is probably a technical challenge which might have led to the disenfranchisement of 26,000.
Also, he argued that, during the limited voter registration exercise but for the NDC, the EC was churning out wrong figures.
“What type of quality of assurance goes into the Electoral Commission? Who and who is looking at their figures? Who is analysing their data before it comes out?” he questioned.
Dr Tanko-Computer argued that even as a party before they make certain statements, there is a lot of due diligence.
Hence, the party could not understand why the country's electoral management body was lackadaisical about numbers.
