The Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, Togbe Afede XIV, is expected to lead the Asogli State to establish an Aviation Academy in Ho in the Volta Region.
The initiative is anticipated to put to good use the Ho Airport which has become a white elephant borne out of lack of interest to board flights from Accra to Ho.
After public and media pressure on the operationalization of the Airport, Togbe Afede co-piloted the Embraer 145 aircraft of Africa World Airline (AWA) on a test flight to the Ho Airport on 21st April 2021, which was subsequently followed with commercial flights plying the route.
Passion Air folded up operations after plying the route for some months on the premise of low patronage.
That notwithstanding, the launch of the Aviation Academy scheduled for Saturday 28th September 2023 is expected to rekindle the hope of Ho residents in the Airport impacting their livelihoods positively.
It is one of the main highlights of activities lined up to mark the 20th-anniversary of
Togbe Afede’s reign over the Asogli State.
The occasion, which would also mark the 2023 Asogli Teza (Yam Festival) celebrations starts from Saturday, August 16th to Sunday, October 8, 2023.
Thousands of revelers are expected to throng the Asogli state, which constitutes four traditional areas in the Ho Municipality to participate in the memorable event.
The annual teyuyru (yam-hailing carnival) is expected to pull the greatest crowd, and present residents and revelers with exciting moments, as experienced in previous years. It would take place on Friday 1st September, 2023.
The reinstating of Miss. Asogli is expected to be the icing on the cake after being suspended for over 5 years.
The two-month-long celebration is laced with sports tournaments, constituting soccer and tennis competitions.
Other captivating activities include Exploring the Adaklu Mountain, Youth Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Day, Anti-Corruption Forum, Women's Day Celebration, Peace, Unity and Development Summit, and a Summit of Ewe Chiefs from Ghana, Togo and Benin, among others.
