A second-year student of the University for Development Studies, (UDS), Wa campus has met his untimely death in a road accident that occurred at Bonyanto a suburb of West Gonja district of the Savannah Region on Tuesday.
According to eyewitnesses, the 20-seater Mercedes Benz vehicle was headed for Wa from Tamale when one of its tyres removed, causing the vehicle to somersault several times killing the student and leaving 17 others injured.

“The DVLA [Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority] has to start doing something, they must check the tyres and all. Cars must have double tyres because from Tamale to Wa is not a short journey for such cars to be embarking on,” Amadu Karim, road user said in an interview with JoyNews following the accident.
Another road user, Lazarous Aanyere was of the view that reckless driving coupled with over-speeding are the causes of certain preventable road accidents.

“It is very unfortunate to see a car like this, with a good road what do you expect. What will be the reason for him to be driving slowly,” he asked.
The victims who sustained various injuries are currently at the Damongo Hospital receiving treatment. The driver of the vehicle survived unscathed.
