The University of Ghana Corporate Football League is set to kick off this Friday, 21 February 2025, with defending champions Union Ghana facing the College of Humanities at the UG Sports Stadium.
The league, which brings together corporate and academic teams, promises 20 weeks of competitive football.
The official launch took place on Tuesday, February 18, at the UG Sports Stadium VIP Lounge, unveiling the tournament structure and fixtures. Eighteen teams, including Ghana Armed Forces Sports Club, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, Stanbic Bank, and the Ghana Football Association, have been grouped into two leagues.
Friday’s opening day will see five matches, including a curtain-raiser between the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) and the University of Ghana. Other fixtures include Ghana National Petroleum Corporation vs Ghana Football Association and College of Health Sciences vs Telecel Ghana.
Union Ghana, winners of the UG Community Games Football Gala, will aim to retain their dominance, but the College of Humanities, known for their tactical play, will be looking to cause an upset.
The competition, aimed at strengthening ties between academia and the corporate world, was praised by UG Registrar Mrs Emelia Agyei-Mensah and Sports Minister Kofi Adams, who commended organisers RITE Sports Services for their vision.
With corporate teams battling for supremacy, the UG Corporate Football League is set to be a highlight of the sporting calendar. Will Union Ghana defend their crown, or will a new champion emerge? The action starts this Friday at the UG Sports Stadium.
