The University of Ghana has announced the immediate suspension of all social gatherings on campus following a resurgence in Covid-19 cases.
This directive was issued in an official notice signed by Professor Rosina I. Kyerematen, Dean of Student Affairs, on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
According to the statement, the Office of Student Affairs is taking precautionary measures to safeguard the health and well-being of the university community.
“Due to the resurgence of COVID-19 cases on the University of Ghana campus, it has become necessary to suspend all social gatherings with immediate effect,” the notice read.

The ban affects all student bodies, including the Graduate Students’ Association of Ghana (GRASAG), Student Representative Council (SRC), Junior Common Room (JCR), as well as departmental and school associations. All planned week celebrations and activities have been put on hold until further notice.
The university urged full compliance from all student leaders and stakeholders, emphasising that the directive is in the best interest of public health on campus.
The memo was also copied to the Pro Vice-Chancellor (ASA), Director of Public Affairs, Director of Safety and Security Services, heads of halls and departments, senior tutors, hostel managers, and patrons of student clubs and associations.
This move signals a return to heightened caution as the university navigates the renewed threat of the COVID-19 virus on its grounds.
