One of the most vibrant festivals in the Volta Region, the Agadzi Festival, organised by the chiefs and people of the Dodome Traditional Area in the Ho West District, has made a resurgence after a long break.
The annual festival is one of the most celebrated in the region, and this year, it promises a variety of exciting activities, including public health education, a history night, a quiz competition among Junior High Schools in the area, and a football gala.

Many dignitaries, including the Moderator of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church (E.P.C.) of Ghana, the Volta Regional Minister, all Parliamentary Candidates from both the Ho Central and Ho West constituencies, and members of the Regional Security Council, are expected to attend the grand durbar of the festival, scheduled for Saturday, 9th November 2024, at Dodome Avexa.
The Paramount Chief of the area, Togbega Kpangbatriku IV, is expected to be seated in state to receive the various dignitaries. Chiefs and queens from all the communities in the traditional area will be present, dressed in their beautiful regalia, and there will be an exhibition showcasing the indigenous trades of the Dodome people.
The festival takes place just after the people of Anlo celebrated their famous Hogbetsotso festival. Some residents of Accra, originally from Dodome, say the festival gives them an opportunity to return home after a long stay in the capital.
This year’s festival aims to raise funds for the construction of a modern Traditional Council block. Another key focus of the festival is to promote local tourism and showcase the various tourism potentials of the Dodome enclave.
The area is renowned for its production of palm-nut oil, bananas, plantains, and other cash crops. Some communities within the traditional area are blessed with rocky mountains, rain forests, and forested hills, making the area ideal for tourism-related ventures.
The theme for this year’s festival is "Unity, Commitment, and Development."
The annual event also serves to honour the ancestors who fought for the freedom of the Dodome people and to reflect on their migration from their ancestral homeland to their present location.
