Government says it is working tirelessly to keep the deadly coronavirus out of the country.

Interior Minister Ambrose Dery who gave the assurance in an interview with JoyNews said all measures earlier mapped out by the Health Ministry are strictly being followed especially at the country’s borders.

“Since the outbreak of the virus, the Minister of Health has been to Parliament to roll out what we have to do to check it.

“I can assure you that we are going to follow it judiciously and we believe that with those measures in place, we can do with the coronavirus what we did with Ebola.”

Government has already allocated some ¢2.5 million for the implementation of the ‘coronavirus initial response preparedness plan’ with the Ministry of Health initiating a process to procure 10,000 pieces of personal protective equipment to augment what was already in store for use by all front-line workers.

While the Minority in Parliament continues to insist that these measures are not enough and more can be done, the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Service say there is no cause for alarm.

Reiterating this commitment, Mr Dery urged Ghanaians and other nationalities coming from China to abide by the new migration checks and protocols put in place.

“All measures are being followed but we still need to appeal to the people. We are urging all Ghanaians who are coming from China to submit themselves to be checked so they can go through the process. It is just part of the measures to keep everyone safe,” he added.

Meanwhile, two patients who underwent testing for coronavirus on Thursday have been declared negative by officials at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR).

The two – a Chinese and an Argentine –were isolated at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, and their blood samples sent to the medical research institute for testing.
