South Africa head coach Hugo Broos has criticised events that unfolded after the last Africa Cup of Nations, describing them as unacceptable and insisting such incidents must not be repeated.

The veteran tactician, who guided the South African national football team to an impressive campaign at the tournament, expressed concern over issues that emerged shortly after the team’s return.

“Three, four days after we came back from the AFCON, we saw things that should never happen anymore,” Broos said.

He disclosed that the situation forced the technical team to take immediate action, including dropping some players from the squad.

“We also saw things that we knew we couldn’t change immediately, so we dropped them and took all the players,” he added.

Broos further challenged the affected players to reflect on their absence from the national team setup.

“And I hope that those guys, maybe we’re not there now, but those guys need to ask themselves why they’re not with the national team,” he stated.

His remarks come in the aftermath of the continental showpiece, as teams begin to regroup and assess performances while looking ahead to the next Afcon edition.
