Zoomlion Ghana Limited has been honoured with two major awards at the 8th Health, Environment, Safety and Security (HESS) Awards 2026 in recognition of its contribution to sustainable waste management and environmental protection.

The company received the Waste Management and Recycling Facility Excellence Award 2026 and the Waste Management Innovation Award 2026, highlighting its commitment to delivering innovative, safe and sustainable waste management solutions across the country.

The awards ceremony, held in Accra, was under the theme, "Beyond Compliance: Building Resilient Organisations Through Integrated HESS Excellence."

Zoomlion was represented at the event by Operations Manager, Mr Emil Amoah; People and Culture Manager in charge of Performance Management, Mrs Ruth Juwena Bentie; Health and Safety Officer, Mrs Kesha Owooh; and Corporate Affairs Officer, Ms Mary Agyepomah-Kissi.

The HESS Awards celebrate organisations that go beyond regulatory compliance by promoting excellence in workplace safety, environmental management and security standards.

For Zoomlion, the recognition reflects the company’s continued investment in innovation, employee safety, environmental protection and sustainable sanitation solutions.

Speaking after receiving the awards, Mr Amoah described the achievement as a major milestone and a recognition of the collective effort of the company’s workforce.

“Winning the Best Waste Management and Recycling Company and Best Waste Management Innovation Award is a significant milestone for Zoomlion Ghana Limited. These awards recognise our unwavering commitment to excellence, innovation, and sustainable environmental management,” he said.

“They also reaffirm the confidence our stakeholders have in our services and our contribution to Ghana’s sanitation and environmental agenda,” he added.

Mr Amoah said the recognition belongs to all employees whose daily efforts continue to drive the company’s operations nationwide.

“As an executive, it was a great honour to lead the delegation in receiving these awards on behalf of our dedicated workforce, including drivers and janitors.

“This recognition reflects the collective efforts of our employees and motivates us to continue raising standards through innovation, operational excellence, and exceptional service delivery,” he stated.

The ceremony also recognised outstanding organisations from sectors including manufacturing, energy, health, finance, logistics and agribusiness.

Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Professor Jacob Paarechuga Anankware, who was the special guest of honour, commended the organisers for promoting excellence in health, environment, safety and security.

He said the theme for the awards aligned with the EPA’s mandate and Ghana’s broader development objectives, urging organisations to continue prioritising environmental responsibility and workplace safety.

He also called for support towards efforts to ban Styrofoam as part of measures to protect the environment.

Deputy Chief Inspector at the Department of Factory Inspectorate, Mr Sean Kingsley, also emphasised the need for organisations to integrate occupational health and safety into their corporate culture.

Referencing the International Labour Organisation’s focus on psychosocial well-being, he urged Ghanaian industries to move beyond compliance and adopt deliberate safety practices.

He further cited World Bank estimates indicating that occupational health and safety failures could cost low-and middle-income countries significantly, calling for stronger collaboration between government and industry to promote safer workplaces.

Zoomlion said the recognition reinforces its commitment to improving operational standards through strict field safety protocols, regular equipment maintenance, environmental impact management and emergency response systems.

The company added that it remains focused on advancing integrated waste management through modern recycling facilities, improved operations, community sanitation initiatives, employee safety training and waste-to-value innovations.

The HESS Awards 2026, powered by the Innovating Global Safety Initiative and endorsed by key institutions, continues to recognise organisations and individuals making health, environment, safety and security central to their operations.

Zoomlion says the awards serve as both recognition of its achievements and motivation to deepen its contribution towards building a cleaner, safer and more sustainable Ghana.
