Two Zoomlion staff narrowly escaped death after flooding waters swept them off the Fou bridge in Tamale in the Northern Region, Saturday.
The two were able to swim out of the water while their truck has completely submerged in the waters.
This follows flooding in several communities in the Tamale metropolis and Sagnarigu Municipal areas after over an hour downpour this Saturday.
At Gumani some residents blocked the roads in protest of the poor drainage system in the area.
The residents said several complaints to city authorities have not yelled any results thus their move to block it.
At Zagyuri, the residents came together and contributed to construct culverts to help make way for the water but that not helped the situation.
Alhassan Muhammad Mutaja, a resident said their leaders have not shown any concern.
But the Sagnarigu Municipal Chief Executive, Mariam Iddrisu, said inasmuch as the residents are aware of the perennial nature of the flood, it does not inform how they site structures.
"Some of it is not as a result of poor road network, but the manner in which the residents put up structures. The community or the chief is giving land to people on build on waterways and low-lying areas so when it rains you will get these flooding issues," she said.
She said the residents must check this to forestall people losing their lives whenever it rains heavily.
