The New Patriotic Party's flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has emphasised the importance of prioritising peace ahead of the December elections in Ghana.
He urged Ghanaians to refrain from actions or comments that could jeopardize the nation's peace, stressing that Ghana's diversity requires respect for everyone's views.
Dr Bawumia, speaking during his nationwide tour, which commenced on April 29, also cautioned politicians against inciting their supporters against others.
He stressed that the upcoming election should not be seen as a do-or-die situation for the country.
"As politicians, we will come and go, but the country Ghana will remain. So let us unite in peace and continue to respect our diversity. We are Ghanaians first, before our political party," he said.
Meanwhile, Dr Bawumia has also pledged to strengthen religious coexistence in the country if he's voted into office.
Addressing Christian and Muslim leaders in Akropong, Eastern Region, Dr Bawumia said that faith-based groups have made significant contributions to the development of Ghana, and it's about time they are recognised as important development partners, just like any of Ghana's external partners.
"I want us and faith-based organisations to have a close relationship; a development-based partnership, just like any of our external partners," he said.
"If you look at the works the faith-based organisations have done for Ghana in terms of infrastructure like schools and hospitals, it is better than whatever our development partners have given," he said.
