Three persons have been shot at Ahamanso Junction in the Oti Region following a clash between Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) task force and some farmers.
The victims were shot when a misunderstanding erupted between the task force and the farmers over the sale of cocoa beans.
It’s unclear who fired the gun but the victims are said to be farmers.
Dr David Amankwa Kodua, the Principal Medical Officer at the St Mary Theresa Hospital in Papase where the victims were sent for treatment said they received three patients who were rushed to the emergency as case of suspected gunshots.
“As of now, they are stable. One of them who is around 36 years old, received a gunshot wound to the right lower limb, and after investigating further - the bullet there confirmed that indeed it was a gunshot wound,” he said.
He said the 36-year-old had a fracture of the tibia (bones in the leg below the knee,) emphasising that arrangements had been made to refer him to the Ho Teaching Hospital, where orthopaedic surgeons would attend to him.
“The other two, one of them was even discharged. He was very, very stable. And the one who is also on the award, which we can manage here, has some lacerations which we sutured. For him, the X-ray did not show the bullet inside,” Dr Kodua said.
