The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that forty-four Ghanaians have been rescued from a suspected fraudulent recruitment syndicate operating in Nigeria, following an earlier public warning issued on March 13, 2026, regarding the activities of “QNET” and similar schemes.

In a statement released on Saturday, March 21, the Ministry disclosed that the victims were enticed through misleading tactics, including social media platforms and informal recruitment channels, with promises of lucrative employment and travel opportunities abroad.

However, upon their arrival in Nigeria, the individuals were reportedly subjected to harsh and exploitative conditions. These included restrictions on their movement, psychological manipulation, and coercion to enlist others into the scheme.

The Ministry indicated that the rescue followed a joint operation carried out on March 16, 2026, by Nigerian security agencies, notably the Department of State Services, in collaboration with relevant Ghanaian authorities.

The victims were subsequently repatriated to Accra on March 20, 2026.

Authorities say efforts are ongoing to dismantle the criminal network behind the operation, with the Government of Ghana working closely with its Nigerian counterparts and other stakeholders. Measures are also being implemented to support the victims through protection, rehabilitation and reintegration programmes.

The Ministry expressed gratitude to the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria for its swift response and continued cooperation in addressing the situation.

It also reiterated Ghana’s firm stance against human trafficking and fraudulent recruitment practices.

Members of the public have been urged to remain vigilant, thoroughly verify travel and job offers through official channels, and avoid dealings with unverified individuals or organisations.

The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of Ghanaians both within the country and abroad.
