Police in Accra and the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have begun investigations into the cause of a fire outbreak at Abossey Okai spare parts hub Sunday evening.
The probe may confirm NADMO’s initial assessment which faulted the burning of refuse and worn-out tyres close to shops in the market.
JoyNews Fostina Sarfo reported that the fire started about 4:00pm local time.
Firefighters fought the inferno for more than an hour.
Police personnel helped the firefighters to keep order at the site.
Although, the effects of damage caused is yet to be assessed, some shop owners say they have lost goods running into hundreds of cedis.
The Deputy NADMO boss, Abu Ramadan has meanwhile, questioned the citing of the market.
He said his outfit will engage the Lands Commission to ascertain if the spare parts dealers are licensed to operate within the area.
