The General Secretary of the NDC has cautioned against indifference in discussions concerning the Electoral Commission’s decision to compile a new voters’ register for the 2020 elections.

Giving an analogy while addressing the press on Monday, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah said in event of fallouts from a botched election due to the new voters’ register, even those who sat on the fence would be affected.

He likened the scenario to three groups of people; one group pulling a vehicle uphill and another pulling it backward while the third group sat in the car unconcerned.

Those who sat in the vehicle unconcerned, he said, would be most affected when the two opposing forces decide to stop pulling because the “vehicle would fall into a ditch, killing the passive citizens.”

In his presentation, the NDC scribe called out the Electoral Commission for what he said are inconsistencies in their timeline for the new register.

According to him, the EC has reset the date the register will be ready from November 8 to October 15, 2020 after the NDC pointed out the legal implications for the register not being ready one clear month before voting day, December 7.

Asiedu Nketiah then called on all citizens to resist the EC’s intended compilation of a new register, insisting it is not necessary.

“The current register is credible,” the party said in their presentation at the Holiday Inn Hotel.
