The flag-bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Prof. John Atta Mills says he will establish an airport facility in the Central Region when elected president.
According to him, most of the regions in Ghana have airstrips, opening such places to development and hoped such a facility would create employment in the area, especially for the youth.
Prof. Mills, who was speaking at Etfutu in the Cape Coast Metropolis as part of his five-day tour of the region, implored the people to vote massively for him and the NDC to make the promise a reality.
The first day of his tour took the professor to Effutu, Abura, Kwaprow and Brofoyedur all in Cape Coast and the subsequent rounds would also take him to Mfantseman West and East, Agona West and the Komenda-Edina-Aguafo -Abrem constituencies.
The NDC Flag-bearer also promised the people an Information Technology (IT) park to bring on board the youth to learn how to assemble phones, outboard motors and the use of the computer among other IT work.
He promised to upgrade the Central Regional Hospital to a teaching hospital to train upcoming nurses and doctors, hoping that that would improve upon professionalism in the health profession.
At the r University of Cape Coast (UCC), Prof. Mills asked Ghanaians not to lose their lives because of their political affiliations and condemned the carnage in the Northern part of Ghana, saying that "under no pretext should you lose your life".
He contended that election is not about life and death but fairness and transparency and pointed out that "whatever happens during elections would have an effect on the future of the people".
The former vice president noted that politics of presidency is about the human quality of a leader and asked Ghanaians to look through all the presidential candidates and research into their background and choose the right man, indicating that "they should be prepared to subject themselves to vigorous examination."
Prof. Mills said the vision he would pursue in 2009 when he is made the president of Ghana is anchored on four thematic areas, which are a strong economy and job creation, investing in the people, education for all and transparent government.
Education, he maintained, should be regarded as a right every person must have and therefore should respond to the exigencies of the time.
"The New Patriotic Party (NPP) government decided to live an imprint of what the NDC created by changing the Secondary School period and name, to four years and High School respectively but that turned out to be cosmetic," he said.
He indicated that the NDC will not follow the trail of the NPP by changing the educational policy but engage in a multi-roundtable conference to come out with an education policy that can stand the test of time.
He, underscored the fact that no one should be denied access to education since it gives a person the power to fend for himself and equip people with the necessary tool to forge ahead in the developmental process of the country.
He pledged to institute two Universities in the country when given the nod-University of Health and Allied Sciences at Ho and Renewable Energy and Agric University in Sunyani.
Prof. Mills explained that oversight control of the GETFund would be reviewed and direction given on how it should be used to support education in a form of scholarship packages, teachers and students' accommodation among others.
He said the country's priorities are skewed and therefore need a listening government that can ensure quality development.
