Fresh documents produced by veteran journalist Kweku Baako on the GETFund scholarship saga reveal a possible racket.
The Editor-In-Chief of the New Crusading Guide produced documents he obtained from his investigations which reveal some of the beneficiaries in the Auditor-General’s report got monies much lower than listed.
For Education Minister Matthew Opoku Prempeh, for instance, the A-G’s report, which is informed by documents from GETFund, says he got some $12,800 as living allowance while studying at Harvard University.
However, per Mr. Baako’s documents, the Manhyia South MP received just over $1,150; a difference of some $11,650 from what the official figures say.
Likewise, Sarah Adwoa Safo, Dome-Kwabenya MP and Procurement Minister is also listed in the report as having received $12,800.
But she only received $6,338, per the documents produced by Mr. Baako.
Deputy Agric Minister Kennedy Osei Nyarko who has been very vociferous about his name being included in the list also appears on Kweku Baako’s list among “Applicants who did not enroll.”
In the A-G’s list, there is no amount listed by his name.
Former Metro TV journalist, Ramana Shareef also makes it on Mr. Baako’s list. The journalist is listed in the A-G’s list as having her fees and living allowance totalling £22,730.00 paid by GETFund”.
She, has, however, challenged the list, saying that the monies were never paid. Her lawyers have written to the management of GETFund to seek answers on the matter.
Mr. Baako’s list confirms the journalist never enrolled, hence could not have received the monies.
These revelations go further to deepen the controversy about the row, as it is unclear, should the veteran journalist’s document be authentic, where the rest of the cash went.
Some critics have already argued that MPs and politicians ought not to benefit from the GETFund scholarship which is meant for brilliant but needy students.
