The University of Cape Coast (UCC) has banned all international conferences on campus as part of measures to tackle any threat of coronavirus on campus.
This follows a declaration of the outbreak as a pandemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Since it was first detected in the central Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019, the virus has spread to every continent except Antarctica and infected more than 121,000 people, causing 4,300 deaths.
Neighbouring Côte d’Ivoire is also the latest in the West African sub-region to record a confirmed case of the deadly COVID-19.
In a statement released by UCC’s Public Affairs Directorate Wednesday, says the latest measure, among others, was arrived at following consultation with the Central Regional Health Directorate.
“All international conferences to be hosted by the University have been suspended until further notice,” it stated.
The institution has also suspended international travel for staff until further notice.
UCC staff already out on international travel have also been directed to self-quarantine for at least 5 days before they report to the office.
