Former President John Mahama has said his appointees who assisted in the country’s preparedness during the Ebola crisis are on standby to assist government deal with the coronavirus outbreak.
In a Facebook Live sessions Monday, he said the pandemic is a national issue that needs all hands on deck to deal with.
“My party and I will play our role in supporting national effort to mitigate the threats and to support our people through this crisis,” he said.
The NDC flagbearer said at such dire times misinformation and mistrust is the enemy of the nation, charging authorities to be transparent and trustworthy in their communication.
He wants the Health Ministry to safeguard fake news on social media.
Mr Mahama said as the minority, they will hold government accountable on getting to know what it is doing to safeguard Ghanaians.
The former president charged the Akufo-Addo government to publish a comprehensive plan on how it intends to deal with emergency cases around the country.
“We will be supportive of the measures and actions taken by government while remaining vigilant in ensuring that the public is adequately protected.
“This is not the time for words, it is time for action…what the government didn’t address is the wide-reaching economic impacts of the pandemic,” he said.
