Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) has joined the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, with the donation of personal protective equipment to support KNUST Hospital.
The package worth GH¢5,000, is part of the local branch’s corporate strategies and community impact project to commemorate its 40th anniversary.
Local and National President of the association, Kwame Yeboah Jr, reiterated the need for a concerted effort to contain Covid-19.
“In addition to the above, GAUA is also supporting the fight through its other members, namely Administrative staff including Registrars, Finance Officers, Estate Officers, Security Experts, Counsellors, among others, who are providing important and essential services to keep the university structures, facilities and municipal services running in the midst of the lockdown,” he said.
“For example, ICT staff are working to ensure that the University ICT infrastructural facilities function. This is to ensure that the necessary ICT platforms are available to support e-learning during the lockdown period,” Mr, Yeboah added.
Director of University Health Services, Dr. Osei Wusu Ansah, himself a member, thanked GAUA for the gesture and called for support from other groups.
The National Executive Committee (NEC) of GAUA, comprising Administrative, Professional Senior Members of public universities, also made a cash donation of GH¢15,000.00 to the Covid-19 Trust Fund.
Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, received the cheque on behalf of government.
The Covid-19 pandemic has brought forth the need for communities to be supported more than before.
Membership of the association includes medical officers, consultants, specialists, pharmacists and laboratory technologists.
These categories of public university staff are frontline health workers.
They are currently providing specialized services to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the university and surrounding communities.
