Member of Parliament (MP) for Cape Coast North, Babara Asher Ayisi shrugged off stiff competition to beat three other aspirants in the NPP primaries June 20.
There were concerns prior to the primaries that she could lose the contest to one of the three aspirants, especially, one Lawrence Ampah but the Deputy Minister for Works and Housing outran all three and secured the candidature of the Party in Cape Coast North.
Mrs Ayisi secured 199 votes while his closest contender, Lawrence Ampah had 150 votes. The others, Philip Longdon, had 26 with Thomas Baidoo securing 63 votes.
The elated Babara Asher Ayisi thanked the delegates for reposing confidence in her by giving her another opportunity to represent the party.
“I knew the contest was going to be tough but I was just waiting for me to be declared the winner after the primaries. I thank my brothers for their competitive spirit,” she said.
The MP for Cape Coast says she was going to work to unite all the camps and seal the cracks that nearly developed in the party.
“My biggest task is to bring everybody on board for victory in the general elections. Their support means a lot to me and I will never take it for granted,” she averred.
The NPP candidate-elect will face the candidate of the National democratic Congress in the Cape Coast North, Kwamena Mintah Nyarko, popularly known as Raga but Babara Asher Ayisi says, she will beat him in the main elections.
“I have done it before and I will do it again in December. Victory shall surely be delivered on the victory table of the NPP,” she said.
