Dozens of angry supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Sunday stormed the home of Mfantseman MP, Ekow Kwansah Hayford after accusing him of registering people at his residence for voters' ID.
According to an eyewitness, the legislator and his entourage had returned from a thanksgiving service to celebrate his victory during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary primaries when the incident occurred.
The NDC supporters numbered about 30 had a tip-off that the MP has transported some people from the Assin district to register in the voters' registration exercise in his house.
According to them, the supporters blocked the road leading to Mr Hayford's house with their cars and waited around till the MP and his team arrived the scene.
The violence started when he instructed them to remove the cars for him to pass but his plea fell into deaf ears. This resulted in hot exchange of words in which the MP was alleged to have slapped one the NDC supporters.
One person fell during the confrontation and was rushed away from the scene.
The situation attracted scores of residents including opinion leaders in the community who calmed the MP down and later took him to his house.
A member of the NDC Communication team, Aliu Ibrahim Gapo said the party executives got the hint the Mr Kwansah Hayford was registering people from other different consistency in his house so they mobilised themselves to ascertain the truth.
He said when they got to the house the door was locked so, in order to prevent those people from going to the MPs house, they used their cars to block the road.
On his part the New Patriotic Party for the Mfantseman Consistency Second Vice-Chairman Nana Yaw Berkyi condemned the action of the NDC supporters.
He said the MP was organising a party for his followers after his victory at the just ended NPP primaries so there was no registration going on.
