President Akufo-Addo has expressed appreciation to the Electoral Commission (EC) for what he described as the successful conduct of the just-ended voters’ registration exercise.
According to him, the transparent manner in which the process was facilitated is an indication of the commitment of the Commissions to ensuring a credible register ahead of the December general elections.
He made these comments during his 15th address on measures taken by his administration to aid the fight against the novel coronavirus pandemic.
He specifically mentioned the EC Chairperson, Jean Mensa and her lieutenants, for special commendation for ensuring the success of the voter registration exercise all through a ravaging pandemic and all the while ensuring the observance health protocols to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
The president also noted that sections of the public who earlier opposed the compilation of the new electoral roll, later complied, giving credence to the description of the process as successful.
"There were those who expressed various degrees of hysteria and negativity towards the exercise with some who saw heaven and earth to resist the compilation of the register at the peril of their lives, ending up registering," he said.
"By the grace of God, the work of the Electoral Commission and the effective measures put in place by government, these prophesies of doom did not materialise."
