President Akufo-Addo has cut the sod for the construction and upgrading to bitumen surface of over 200km road from in the Ellembelle district of the Western Region.
The project, which will be executed by Memphis Metropolitan Limited, is funded by Ghana National Petroleum Company, Road Fund, Ghana Gas as well as Government of Ghana.
The move, according to the president is in fulfilment of his declaration of 2020 as the ‘Year of Roads.’
Addressing the durbar, President Akufo-Addo said, "the days of Green Book roads in Ghana are over."

“I told Ghanaians this was going to be a Year of Roads. I think Ghanaians can testify that it wasn’t mere rhetoric. We’re not doing Green Book propaganda roads. We’re doing genuine roads on the ground for all to bear witness," he said.
The President assured that he will see the project through adding that it’s a good way to prove to the citizenry his commitment to the country’s development.
“I want to be known as a President who fulfills his promise so that Ghanaians will be confident in me. I say what I can do and I do it when I say it.”
The project is expected to have a life expectancy of between 30 to 40 years after completion.
